Review: The Life Of Rock With Brian Pern, BBC4

Update 11/2/14: I did wonder what Peter Gabriel would make of The Life Of Rock with Brian Pern. Despite a plethora of gags at his expense it appears that he liked it (if this is genuine). Read his response here.

News: David Baddiel Adds New London Dates

Following his acclaimed Edinburgh Fringe comeback last August, reviewed below, and two runs on the South Bank in London as well as a national tour, David Baddiel has now announced a four-week run of Fame: Not The Musical at the Menier Chocolate Factory from April 29 - May 23. Ticket details here

Preview: The Week Ahead Oct 20 - 26

I was lucky enough to bag a ticket for Ricky Gervais's sold out live debut as David Brent with his band Foregone Conclusion last week at The Bloomsbury Theatre. He is back for another work-in-progress this Wednesday and if you can get hold of a ticket for face value I would snap it up. It was a short show at less than an hour but great, with some very funny gags in it – particularly in the new song Lady Gypsy.

Opinion: The Wrong Show Must Go On...

I heard a story the other night about a critic who had gone to review immersive  multi-media circus/burlesque show Silencio at the London Wonderground and had not quite got what they bargained for. The show involves donning headphones when you enter so that you hear the commentary individually while you enjoy being bombarded by spoof adverts onscreen and real acts onstage.

News: David Baddiel adds dates

David Baddiel's first Edinburgh run since 1998 is proving to be the hit of the Fringe. His show, Fame: Not The Musical, has garnered rave reviews across the board and he has just announced two extra afternoon shows on Aug 10 & 11. Ticket details here.

Preview: Warm Ups are Comedy's True Hot Tickets

I'm usually reluctant to give the opposition the oxygen of publicity, but this week Time Out's comedy section has done a nice round-up of the Edinburgh Fringe's work-in-progress shows coming up in London. I'd been working on a similar piece myself to launch BTJ's new Preview Section and will be posting Preview of the Day tweets to highlight the shows you really must see

Review: Robert Newman's New Theory of Evolution, Little Angel Theatre

Normally at a comedy gig I feel self-conscious whipping out my notebook. But Robert Newman's modestly-titled New Theory of Evolution is not a normal comedy show. At times it feels so much like a lecture that taking notes feels perfectly natural.

Review: The Week Ahead May 20 - 26

With bands constantly reuniting maybe the next stage in the comedy-as-rock-and-roll phenomenon is for double acts to reunite. Not much chance of Baddiel and Newman getting back together though as both are currently gearing up for a full-on return to solo work after a break.
