News: W1A to Return To BBC

The BBC has announced that Ian Fletcher, Head of Values, will be allowing cameras into New Broadcasting House again early next year for another series of W1A, following his day-to-day problem creating and solving abilities.

Until the cameras roll it won't be known exactly what crisis will be averted or indeed where Ian's desk will be.

Opinion: Comedy's Guilty Pleasures

In music in recent years there has been the phenomenon of Guilty Pleasures. Songs that deep down in your heart you know that you should hate, but somehow you can’t get the tune out of your head. Romesh Ranganathan has a prime example of this in his current show when he talks about how he thinks the lyrics of Blurred Lines are rapey, but the rhythm just makes you want to jiggle your body.

New Interview: Ventriloquist Paul Zerdin

America's Got Talent star Paul Zerdin is one of the UK’s top ventriloquists. He has entertained the troops, sold out at the Edinburgh Festival and Las Vegas and appeared on the Royal Variety Performance. He is regularly accompanied by his three unruly puppets. Sprightly old timer Albert is ruining Paul’s love life with his hard-of-hearing ways. News: Women In Comedy Festival Announced

The first 100 shows in this year’s Women In Comedy Festival have been announced. The annual Festival, which started last year, takes place around Greater Manchester from October 11 - 26 in over 16 venues.

Following last week’s competition I have had another rummage in my cupboard and found some pristine copies of my biography of Rowan Atkinson. This is the first major overview of Atkinson’s career tracing his development from his early live work with Richard Curtis to Not The Nine O’Clock News, Blackadder, Mr Bean and Hollywood. One customer on Amazon described it as “fantastically detailed”, another described it as “trash”. There’s only one way to find out who is right.

News: New Comedy Festival For York

The city of York is to launch a new comedy festival in 2015. The Great Yorkshire Fringe will run from July 24 to August 2.

The timing – immediately before the start of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival – means that there is a strong chance that the organisers will be able to attract top Fringe comedians putting the final touches to their Edinburgh shows.

News: New Comedy Magazine Launches

New Comedy Magazine Stand & Deliver has just been launched. Issue 1 costs £5 plus postage and features Tony Law on the cover. It also features quite a lot of Tony Law inside. An interview with him, some of his doodles and a children’s story written by Law.

That’s not all though. The magazine also includes a piece on comedy in Germany, a piece on dressing up in comedy and a comedians’ guide to festivals. Other comedians featured include Seymour Mace, Matt Roper, Gavin Webster and Jojo Smith.
