Review: Chris Ramsey, Latitude 2017

It was pretty much par for the course that the first gag I heard on arrival at this year's Latitude 2017 was Chris Ramsey talking about his fear of having to wipe baby pooh off the TV remote. And of course it got a big laugh. Latitude is more family-orientated than any other festival and there were plenty of young parents with small kids in tow in the comedy tent who laughed along to Ramsey's relatable riffs about being a stressed out dad.

Ramsey had performed a gig in Radlett as part of his All Growed Up tour and had checked into the hotel. According to his tweets, the police kicked his door in and handcuffed him. Apparently a man had been in the hotel earlier that evening and had threatened the staff with a knife. Someone had seen Ramsey when he checked in and thought it was him and called the police.

Edinburgh Preview: Chris Ramsey

When it comes to the Fringe it always feels as if there is an underlying tension between the arty acts and the straightforwardly crowdpleasing stand-ups. Earlier this week I read a debate on Facebook about whether Roy “Catchphrase” Walker should be doing Edinburgh. I guess the proof is in the commerical pudding. If they shift tickets they’ve made the right decision. I wouldn’t put Chris Ramsey in the Roy Walker camp  but I would put him in the Jason Manford/John Bishop camp. In a Good Way.
