News: Comedian Tom Parry Trains Refugees & Migrants To Do Stand Up

Comedian Tom Parry is training refugees and migrants to do stand-up comedy as part of an upcoming festival exploring displacement, migration and refuge.

The No Direction Home Festival at Camden People's Theatre from October 23 asks what it means to be an exile or a descendent of exiles, to whom do we owe refuge and who gets to make a home in Britain today.

News: Kafka And Kids For Pappy's Parry

Edinburgh Comedy Award multiple nominee Tom Parry is taking on Kafka for this year's Edinburgh Fringe.

Beetlemania – Kafka For Kids is created by Pappy’s Tom Parry and director Russell Bolam, who return to Edinburgh following their joint adaptation of Gogol’s Marriage.

News: Winners Of Comedy Poster Awards Announced

The two winners of the Comedy Posters Awards 2015 were announced last night at an event at the Assembly Checkpoint.

Tom Parry was chosen as winner by the judges panel, while Michael Stranney & Olaf Falafel won the public vote.

There were 402 entries and over 30,000 votes cast in the public vote category.

Every sketch group needs its resident idiot and Pappy’s has Tom Parry. Although Ben Clark does run him close at times. It is Parry who tends to come up with madcap schemes. It is Parry who tends to wear costumes made out of old children’s toys. It is Parry who tends to strip off at the drop of a hat. In the Pappy’s shows he has other perfomers to consider, but this year he is doing his first Fringe solo show and has a whole hour to himself to be gloriously silly in.

Whether you are in a band or a sketch group when members start doing solo shows it can mean various things. Maybe their egos are too big contain as part of an ensemble. Maybe they just want to flex their creative muscles on their own for a while. Maybe this is a hint that the group is about to go their separate ways. Or maybe, in the case of Pappy’s, they just couldn’t be arsed to do a brand new show for this year’s Fringe, so Matthew Crosby and Tom Parry did solo shows instead.
