Interview
Officer Meekie - Mark Bonnar
Mark, can you tell us about Officer Meekie?
I feel it would be better to let Officer Meekie speak for himself:
- What is the last thing you do before you go onstage (apart from check your flies and/or check your knickers aren't sticking out of your skirt and check for spinach between your teeth)?
Pace up and down and remind myself that I am incredibly lucky to do this for a living and that I am living a dream and I should ignore the abject terror that is overtaking my body
2. What irritates you?
You are in Roisin Conaty’s new sitcom GameFace. What can you tell us about the show, and who you play?
Your new series is GameFace. Explain a little bit about the show.
What can you tell us about your character and this series of W1A?
Ian Fletcher’s bedside reading is currently 'The Sinking of the Titanic and Other Psychological Conditions' and 'Optimism in a Post-Truth World'. So he is very much keeping a positive outlook while at the same time testing the emotional lifeboats.
Is life getting any easier for Ian?
A version of this interview first appeared in the London Evening Standard here at the start of the Edinburgh Fringe Festival 2017. Martin went on to pick up a lastminute.com Edinburgh Comedy Award nomination for her show Dope.
The phrase ‘bigger and better’ might have been coined specifically for Joe Lycett’s new touring show. Hitting the road with I’m About To Lose Control And I Think Joe Lycett (more on that punning title in a minute), the Birmingham-born, bred and based-comic is taking a brand new set of observations, set pieces and gags to larger venues than he’s appeared in previously on his solo tours. Not that he’s especially fazed by any of it.
Why are you taking part in Strictly this year?
I am taking part in Strictly partly because I am a huge fan of the show. I think it is the nicest show on television, I am obsessed with watching it and to do a show you love so much is a beautiful thing. I also really want to learn how to dance and I want to be in a pretty frock and high heels. It’s so different from my everyday life that I think it’s important to challenge yourself and this is probably the greatest challenge I’ll ever have in my life.
