A version of this interview with Ricky Gervais first appeared in the London Evening Standard here in October, 2017. Since this was published Gervais has said that the working title of his latest project revealed below is now "After Life".
Dawn French and Jennifer Saunders are back together this festive season for a special 30th anniversary clip show bursting with brand new material, greatest hits, hilarious rarities, and even some never before seen footage.
Here's an excerpt from an interview I did with Keith Chegwin in 2006 for the London Evening Standard. He was just about to appear in Extras with Ricky Gervais as a darker, smuttier version of himself. I went to his big house just outside London to interview him. Onstage Judah Friedlander is The World Champion. He is the best athlete in the world, the greatest martial artist, the sexual desire of every woman, a role model to children, and the most humble person on the planet. Or maybe not. Take a look at his Netflix special America Is The Greatest Country In The United States to make up your own minds. You may already know Friedlander from 30 Rock where he played writer Frank Rossitano. Tina Fey described him as “one of the all-time great weirdos”.

Can you explain a bit about the backdrop and time of which Derry Girls is set….
I thought it was Glade that feels like a breath of fresh air. It's actually McGlade. Chris McGlade. The Middlesbrough stand-up has made a splash in the last year with a welcome brand of intense, passionate, political, personal comedy. You may not agree with everything he says about the state of the nation, but, boy, does he sell it well.
