The story about Welsh comedian Elis James’ pithy response to a request for an interview following Wales’ Euro 2016 qualifier victory against Cyprus has continued to spread around the world.
James, XFM Radio presenter and star of BBC3 sitcom Crims, was asked via Twitter if he would be prepared to talk later on Thursday evening on Radio 4’s World Tonight about his country’s rise up the football ranks. James’ tweeted back: “I will be shit-faced unfortunately.”
Submissions are now open for the 2016 LOCO London Comedy Film Festival. The festival will be returning for its fifth year at BFI Southbank and selected cinemas next April.
New British shorts and feature films that have not had theatrical distribution, and new international comedy feature films that have never been screened in the UK are all eligible for inclusion.
Richard Herring’s latest podcast comes complete with an elephant in the room. Unless I missed it his interview with Bridget Christie doesn’t contain any mention of her “fictional husband”, aka Herring’s comedy partner Stewart Lee.
This felt like a strange unexplained – as I said, unless I missed it – omission. If anyone is in a position to discuss Christie’s relationship with Lee and do a bit of a compare-and-contrast it is Herring.
Bill, the new film about the life of William Shakespeare from the stars of Horrible Histories, is to be released in the UK on September 18.

The headliners for this year’s King's Place Festival have been announced. Award-winning comedians Andrew Maxwell and Ardal O’Hanlon headline on Friday, September 11 and Sunday, September 13, joining a comedy line-up including Tony Law, Felicity Ward and Lazy Susan.
OK, serves me right for googling my name on Twitter. As the end of the Fringe approached I wrote a piece speculating on who might make the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist. For my sins I did not pick out many women, mentioning that it was “not a strong female field this year”.
At the Edinburgh Fringe this August Foster’s Awards director Nica Burns called on TV networks to invest in comedy. Sky is certainly doing their bit already. This week a new series of physical comedy-inspired one-offs starts on Sky Arts. The series features the likes of Johnny Vegas, John Kearns, Sam Simmons and Kevin Eldon. But first up they’ve got a really big gun…
David Walliams tried out material for his new sketch show last night.
The comedian/writer/actor, whose drama series Partners In Crime has just been transmitted, performed the new material at the 60-seat Hen & Chickens Theatre in Islington last night. He was joined by comedians Mike Wozniak, Morgana Robinson and special guest Joanna Lumley.
