News: Decline And Fall Character Breakdown

The BBC's three-part adaptation of Evelyn Waugh's Decline And Fall, starring Jack Whitehall and Eva Longoria, starts on Friday, March 31 at 9pm on BBC1. While comedian Jack Whitehall is the star it is very much an ensemble series with a great cast of comic characters played by some familiar faces. Could you introduce yourself and tell us a bit about your character?

I play Paul Pennyfeather, who is the character at the centre of this mad world. He is expelled from University at the beginning of the story and ends up becoming a teacher, marrying a rich heiress and then goes to prison.

What drew you to this production?

Comedian/actor Jim Tavare's wife Laura has posted an encouraging update on her husband's health following his involvement in a head-on collision earlier this month.  He has been able to get into a wheelchair for the first time and recently went outside the hospital where he was reunited with his dog Mr Kippy, who was with him at the time of the accident. TV: Gap Year, E4, Episode 3 – Vietnam

The backpacking comedy-drama makes it to Vietnam this week, where the young foursome is torn between party-fuelled hedonism and adventure and working in an orphanage. And then there is Greg (Tim Key), who wants to play tourist and check out the country's recent military history: “experience the war with none of the downsides”.
