It’s good to have Chewing Gum back. It’s very different to any other series I’ve seen recently, while at the same time it has echoes of the BBC hit Fleabag, which it preceded. If that programme was all Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s idea about contemporary attitudes to sex, then Chewing Gum is very much Michaela Coel’s view of modern romance.
Comedian Brendon Bruns has caused a controversy following his remarks on television criticising Australia Day, whihc falls on Thursday, January 26.
Channel 4 has confirmed the commission of a brand new series of The Crystal Maze from Fizz, RDF Television’s entertainment label. The 20-part series will be hosted by new Maze Master Richard Ayoade, and includes a set of celebrity specials for Stand Up to Cancer.

The IT Crowd's Katherine Parkinson is to appear in a new all-star comedy series on Sky Arts in which famous urban myths are recreated. Parkinson plays a north London housewife called Ange in an episode about Bob Dylan dropping in for tea thinking he has popped round to musician Dave Stewart's house but instead getting the wrong house.
Other stars appearing in the series include Carrie Fisher, Rupert Grint, Joseph Fiennes, Bryan Cox, Stockard Channing, David Threlfall, Iwan Rheon, Eddie Marsan and Noel Clarke.
Comedian Alan Davies is to return to Dave for a fifth series of Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled. The eight new episodes of the informal chat show format will see stars including Melanie C, Sanjeev Baskhar, Dave Johns, Gemma Cairney and David Baddiel take a seat at the table as Alan leads a conversation full of stories from the world of comedy and entertainment.
I first saw Yasmina Reza's three-handed Art about fifteen years ago. It had been running for a few years and a number of comedians had been parachuted into the cast to give the box office a boost. I missed Frank Skinner and Jack Dee but saw a peach of a production with all three of the League of Gentlemen, Reece Shearsmith, Mark Gatiss and Steve Pemberton playing the roles of friends who clash over the pricey purchase of a plain white canvas.
The Piccadilly Comedy Club New Comedian of the Year final has become a pretty good talent-spotter in recent years. Rising star Sofie Hagen was a previous finalist and last year’s winner, Eshaan Akbar, who did a fine job of compering this year’s show, is now managed by Micky Flanagan’s manager and clearly going places.
Comedian Ben Pope was crowned Piccadilly Comedy Club New Comedian of the Year in London.
Ed Night (formerly known as Ed Day) was second.
Daniel Audritt was third.
