Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Mo Gilligan

Mo Gilligan is a busy man. In the last year his online clips have gone viral, he has filmed a C4 pilot with Big Narstie and has had to keep extending his #couplacans tour due to phenomenal demand. He is doing 20 shows at the Leicester Square Theatre from this month as well as a national tour. He seems like a nice guy too – he took his mum to see Seal at the Palladium – and could well be the next big thing.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Tez Ilyas

Tez Ilyas is definitely a comedian with a difference. There aren't many stand-ups out there with the manner and patter of a prime-time entertainer and the material and passion of a hard hitting satirist. The Blackburn comic successfully manages to pull together two very different styles, sweetening his political pill with a smile and a winning punchline. You may have caught him on Radio 4's Tez Talks or The Now Show or on television on Live from the BBC, Mock The Week, The Last Leg or Man Like Mobeen. Now see him live.

Interview: Bill Bailey On New Idris Elba Comedy Drama In The Long Run

Who are you playing?

Bagpipes is Walter’s upstairs neighbour – Walter being Idris’s character. He works in a factory and they’ve been friends for 10 years or so, so they know each other quite well and their kids play together and their wives know each other. It’s quite a sweet friendship. It’s one of the core relationships in the show.

And what kind of a man is he?

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Suzi Ruffell

If Suzi Ruffell isn't the next big thing she flipping well ought to be. She has become one of the star attractions on the live circuit in recent years and has supported the likes of Josh Widdicombe, Romesh Ranganathan and Alan Carr (read below about how she got too merry with Alan Carr one night) on tour. Her last show Keeping It Classy tells the story of how she moved from her working class family in Portsmouth to more middle class circles in London. It's a colourful, compelling tale told with verve and vigour.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Ashley Storrie

You may know Glasgow rising star Ashley Storrie from her viral clips, such as the inspired one where she imagined what the Handmaid's Tale would be like if it was Scottish. Storrie is also a very good stand-up. A gift for painfully honest unedited storytelling – or should that be Storrietelling? – clearly runs in her family - her mum is comedian Janey Godley.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Ari Eldjarn

Icelandic comic Ari Eldjarn is making waves on the UK comedy scene. When he played the Soho Theatre last year he received the kind of ecstatic response usually reserved for pop stars and the Pope. The slick, smart, former Icelandair flight attendant only had to do a deadpan Norwegian accent to get the front row convulsing in hysterics. But there is much more to Eldjarn than Scandi in-jokes.

Interview: Flo & Joan

If you know who musical duo Flo & Joan are you probably either love them or hate them. Their appearances on the Nationwide TV ads have divided viewers and it has been reported that misogynistic messages on social media are to be investigated by the police. They may seem to have come out of nowhere, but they've actually come out of Canada as this interview reveals.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Rob Schneider

US comedian Rob Schneider is coming to the UK this March for a 5-date tour, visiting London, Glasgow, Birmingham, Chester and Leeds. The former Saturday Night Live star appeared in hit movies Grown Ups, You Don’t Mess With The Zohan, Big Daddy and The Waterboy and Deuce Bigalow: Male Gigolo. The San Francisco-born funnyman is well known for his trademark blend of character and comedic acting, and has become one of the most popular touring acts on the live comedy circuit.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Rose Matafeo

New Zealand's Rose Matafeo isn't really a stand-up comedian at all. She is simply a force of nature. A whirlwind in human form ready to whip up a comedy storm from the moment she walks on and sends up her own speccy appearance. Her performances can take in everything from physical clowning to off-the-wall mini-sketches.
