News: Two Live Shows And TV For Nick Helm

Award winning stand-up and TV star Nick Helm will be performing not one but two live shows this autumn/winter.

Nick’s two shows are a tenth-anniversary resurrection of a horror musical and the fourth instalment of his festive bonanza.

Back in 2008 Helm wrote his last play for the Edinburgh Festival, the Musical B-Movie, Drive-In Anthology Horror Tribute ‘I Think, You Stink!’.  It was the only show that Nick wrote between 2001 and 2008 that made any money in Edinburgh. It made £50.

Review: Nick Helm – The Killing Machine, iPlayer

Nick Helm does some proper acting in his self-penned Comedy Short in which he plays a lifetime loser Sam Miller who decides to train to be a champion boxer. When they meet at the gym his trainer Donny (Lloyd Everitt) is not so sure if Sam is cut out for this: "If I didn't do something because I wasn't very good at it i wouldn't do anything," replies Sam.

Opinion: Should Comedians Change Their Act For Different Times?

If you’d had a medical examination that you felt was more intimate than it needed to be what would you do? Go to the General Medical Council? Go to the police? In the case of Greg Davies he turned it into one of the routines in his latest live show, You Magnificent Beast.

Interview: Nick Helm

I interviewed Nick Helm this summer for the London Evening Standard in the run-up to his new tour and new Dave TV series Eat Your Heart Out. You can read the original interview here but he said so much that I couldn't fit in that I've posted the interview transcript below.

TV: Eat Your Heart Out With Nick Helm, Dave

Nice work if you can get it. Nick Helm’s latest series is a mix of sitcom and food programme as he travels around meeting friends, family and heroes, gets to cook food and, on the downside, copes with breaking up with his girlfriend.

Competition: Win Tickets To Every Night Of Comedy Festival And Exclusive Signed Poster

Comedy club Laugh Out London's season of Edinburgh Fringe previews runs from July 17 - 24.

The line-up includes Edinburgh Comedy Award winners (a total of 14 nominations between them all), telly regulars and rising stars. Among the acts doing work-in-progress shows at the Old Queens Head pub at 44 Essex Road in Islington are Tim Key, Sara Pascoe, Richard Herring, Nick Helm, Nish Kumar, Tom Parry, John Kearns, Mae Martin and Jayde Adams.

TV: Loaded, C4

Do people still make gazillions overnight out of internet start-ups? They certainly seem to if Loaded is anything to go by. Things happen even faster than overnight here. One moment cautious Josh (Jim Howick) is overdrawn and addicted to probiotic yoghurt, the next he has piles of money to burn. And probably still likes the odd Yakult.

Interview: The Cast Of Loaded, C4

Loaded, Channel 4's new comedy drama about tech entrepreneurs, starts on May 8 at 10pm. It stars TV comedy regulars Nick Helm, Jonny Sweet, Jim Howick and Samuel Anderson and many more familiar faces. They talk about the series below.

Tell us about Loaded?

Jim – Loaded is an eight part comedy series about four friends who invent a game for smartphones and sell it for 300 million dollars. It’s about how they deal with their immediate fortune and the fall out of that.

TV: Uncle, Series 3, Episode 7

And so it’s finally time to say goodbye to Andy and Errol in the last episode of the last series of Uncle. Sob. Reviewers have been asked not to reveal spoilers so I’m going to fight every journalistic fibre in my body and resist the urge to splurge.
