Sorry there is no picture of Sophie Duker in action to accompany this review. On arrival at the Comedy Arena – previously a tent but now without any sides to make it you-know-what safer – it was so full that this is the closest I could get to the stage. It would have been nice to have seen Duker but it didn't matter too much. The crisp amplification made her loud and clear and in the heat it was nice to chill out at the back for a change.
Sophie Duker's career got a kick start in the summer of 2019 when she was nominated for the Dave Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer prize for her sharp, funny show Venus. Duker is witty, clever and not afraid to express her opinions on all sorts of hot potato issues. Just before the pandemic caused comedy clubs to shut down exactly a year ago, she was running and compering her successful Wacky Racists night.

Iannucci is one of the UK's finest... finest what? Is he a comedian? a writer? a performer? A filmmaker? All of those I guess. I'm so old I remember him doing a two-handed sketch show with David Schneider at the Hen & Chickens. I still have nightmares and cold sweats about it because it is one of the few times I've been hauled up onstage to be a stooge.
