News: Leeds Comedy Festival Line-Up Announced

The line-up has been announced for the Leeds Comedy Festival, which runs from Tuesday, May 30 to Sunday, June 11.

The festival started small in Leeds’ Cultural Quarter four years ago and has gone on to increase capacity year on year with huge and exciting names in the world of stand-up making their way to the city. This year over 50 comedians will be appearing in multiple city centre venues

Live Review, Live at the Chapel with James Acaster, Kevin Eldon, Jayde Adams, Carl Donnelly, John Robins

When the pioneering Invisible Dot organisation closed down in 2016 there was a fear that the regular Union Chapel gigs promoted by ID might come to an end too. There have been lots of memorable nights at this Islington church over the years and luckily for the comedy world promoter Will Briggs has picked up the baton. Briggs is clearly a shrewd man, even if last night’s compere John Robins described him as looking like a stoner out of Point Break.

News: Elis James & John Robins Add New Tour Date

Update 16/9: A new London date has just been added. It is at the Forum, NW5 on December 19 and tickets have just gone on sale here. Please note this one will be John Robins reading from his, erm, autobiography, A Robins Amongst The Pigeons, with the aid of Elis James. For other dates see below.

News: John Robins Tour Announced

Comedian John Robins is touring in Spring 2016 with his Edinburgh show Speakeasy following a run of dates at the Soho Theatre in January.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – John Robins

If you don’t know who John Robins is, then it is about time you remedied the situation. Robins is one of the damn finest stand-ups around at the moment. Well-informed radio fans will know him for his Radio X show with Elis James, TV fans should know him for the spooky story about spiders hatching on a friends' face that he told on Alan Davies: As Yet Untitled. If you get a chance to catch him doing stand-up grab it as if your life depended upon it. He's at Soho Theatre this week and then from Feb 4 - 6.

Opinion: The Foster's Awards – The Ones That Got Away

You can’t please everyone. That’s the conclusion I come to almost every year when the Foster’s Award nominations are announced. This year's shortlist is no exception. Despite choosing seven of the best acts in Edinburgh there are a number of unfortunate omissions. I should imagine that everybody who has taken the trouble to read this far has got one favourite that the panel missed.

Week Ahead: Jan 27 - Feb 3

The exciting news earlier this month that the Mighty Boosh were to tour in 2014 was promptly quashed by the management but you can see half a Boosh tonight at the Soho Theatre when Julian Barratt appears in the guise of guru Jon Breeze. Tickets sold out in a blink, of course, but check the Soho Theatre website every few seconds today in case extra tickets are released.
