Live Review: Nazeem Hussain, Soho Theatre

Australian comic Nazeem Hussain has clearly got a sizeable word-of-mouth following in the UK. His first night in Soho was sold out and the audience seemed to be a mix of Asians, Aussies and those simply interested in good quality stand-up. I think all three demographics left the show satisfied.

Hussain, who is of Sri Lankan heritage, last played the UK as part of package tour Fear of a Brown Planet with Aamer Rahman, and like Rahman, a chunk of his set is about the immigrant experience in Australia.

News: Trigger Happy TV To Return

Dom Joly is planning to return to Channel Four to make more instalments of his breakthrough show Trigger Happy TV. Speaking to promote his new autobiography Joly shied away from describing the landmark hit series as a prank show and said that he hoped that the new episodes would be more "filmic".

Joly's series first went out between 2000 and 2003 and made Joly a major star, famous for carrying a giant mobile and shouting "I'm on the phone" at inopportune moments.

TV Review: Murder In Successville, Deborah Meaden, BBC3

A bit of a change of tone in this week’s improvised celebrity murder mystery. After Jamie Laing and Greg James being very much subordinate to DI Sleet (Tom Davis), Dragon's Den alpha female Deborah Meaden – not surprisingly – doesn’t take much in the way of shit from her superior officer.

Opinion: The Pros and Cons Of Britain's Got Talent by Martin Cabble-Reid

Following yesterday's opinion piece on Lorraine Bowen's appearance on Britain's Got Talent I was contacted by another performer, Martin Cabble-Reid, who also went from comedy clubs to the show, getting to the semi-finals in 2010 as spoof character Kevin Cruise. Cabble-Reid's cautionary story below suggests that if you are already a circuit performer going on BGT will change your career direction forever and that you may not be able to go back to your old life even if you want to...
