News: Foster's Comedy Awards Season At Soho Theatre Confirmed

Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards has announced their fourth annual Foster’s Winner and Nominees Season at the Soho Theatre.  Sam Simmons, Tom Ballard, Tom Parry and Adam Hess are all confirmed, with further names to be announced. In what was a record-breaking year, with the longest judging debate in its 35 year history, Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Awards is proud to showcase the comedy stars of tomorrow. Details below. News: Best of the Fest & More Comes to King's Place

The headliners for this year’s King's Place Festival have been announced. Award-winning comedians Andrew Maxwell and Ardal O’Hanlon headline on Friday, September 11 and Sunday,  September 13, joining a comedy line-up including Tony Law, Felicity Ward and Lazy Susan.

OK, serves me right for googling my name on Twitter. As the end of the Fringe approached I wrote a piece speculating on who might make the Foster’s Edinburgh Comedy Award shortlist. For my sins I did not pick out many women, mentioning that it was “not a strong female field this year”.

TV Preview: Ruby Robinson, Sky Arts

At the Edinburgh Fringe this August Foster’s Awards director Nica Burns called on TV networks to invest in comedy. Sky is certainly doing their bit already. This week a new series of physical comedy-inspired one-offs starts on Sky Arts. The series features the likes of Johnny Vegas, John Kearns, Sam Simmons and Kevin Eldon. News: David Walliams Previews New Sketch Show

David Walliams tried out material for his new sketch show last night.

The comedian/writer/actor, whose drama series Partners In Crime has just been transmitted, performed the new material at the 60-seat Hen & Chickens Theatre in Islington last night. He was joined by comedians Mike Wozniak, Morgana Robinson and special guest Joanna Lumley.

News: Katherine Ryan Lands New TV Job

Katherine Ryan is to be one of the regular panellists on new music game show Bring The Noise.

The Voice's Ricky Wilson will be host, with Nicole Scherzinger and Tinie Tempahas as team captains. The show will also feature live musical performances alongside celebrity guests and comedians, and transmits in the autumn.

Rounds will include spoof video parodies and mash-ups and each show will also see the teams compete in a musical performance battle.

Opinion: Fringe 2015: The Year The Free Show Ceiling Was Truly Smashed

I’m not sure why I’m writing this as I know I’m going to get some stick for it from people who will say I did not delve deeply enough into the real alt-com Fringe, but I’ve just totted up my Fringe 2015 tickets. I saw 80 shows, of which 14 were free shows. Free shows in this case also include shows where you could pay in advance to reserve a seat. I may have seen more but as I’m relying on memory rather than ticket stubs I can’t be entirely accurate.

Now this was an odd programme. There’s having your cake and eating it and then there is this. A tribute hosted by the tributees that put the boot into the tributees at the same time, while finally concluding that they are almost godlike. 

News: Tribute To Comedy Writers Marks & Gran

The British Comedy Society is to honour the TV comedy scriptwriters Laurence Marks and Maurice Gran, who this year celebrate 35 years as professional TV comedy writers, with their prestigious Living Legend Award.

This special event takes place at London's Leicester Square Theatre on Sunday 13th September 2015, in aid of Marks and Gran’s chosen charities, Orbis and Crisis at Christmas

News: Winner Of Ham Fist Worst Review Announced

The winner of this year's Ham Fist Award for the worst review published during the Edinburgh Fringe has been announced by website Fringepig. The prize goes to Graeme Connolly of The List for his review of Stuart Goldsmith. Connolly receives £50 and Goldsmith wins £200.
