The Underbelly has announced a new batch of comedy shows running at this summer's Edinburgh Fringe.
I hesitated before posting the news of Victoria Wood's death in case it was a hoax. She seemed so young and so active and I'd heard nothing about her being ill. The first reaction was disbelief. The second was grief.
Not surprisingly tributes have been flooding in on social media. Ricky Gervais tweeted: "RIP the brilliant Victoria Wood. So innovative, funny and down to earth. This has not been a good year."
The BBC has reported that Victoria Wood has died.
She had been suffering from cancer and was 62.
Wood was a comedy pioneer both on the screen and onstage. After finding fame initially on TV talent show New Faces she made her name with numerous TV series, most notably with her regular partner Julie Walters. Her spoofs on As Seen On TV are as funny now as they ever were.
Jason Manford and David Walliams are to be the two opposing captains in a new television panel game being tried out onstage next month.
In Is This Your Life?, being developed for ITV1, teams will be challenged to reveal their knowledge of mystery guests on the show, which will be hosted by Sara Cox.

A group of comedians has been successful in their attempt to do a gig on Mount Everest in the Himalayas.
Martin Mor, Wayne Deakin, Tom Wrigglesworth and Mickey D were among the group who broke the world record for the highest ever stand-up gig. They performed at an Everest base camp at 5365 metres.
The trip involved a nine-day trek and was in aid of Save The Children.
I, Daniel Blake, the new film by Ken Loach starring comedian Dave Johns, is a contender for the prestigious Palme D'Or Award at the forthcoming Cannes Film Festival.
In the film the stand-up from Wallsend – in his first major screen acting role – plays a middle aged joiner who needs state welfare after illness. He meets a single mother who is also dependent on welfare and the story follows them as they negotiate the benefits system. Hayley Squires co-stars.
