TV: Stewart Lee's Comedy Vehicle, BBC2

Stewart Lee has said that nobody is competent to review him. It’s a sentiment he echoes early on in the first episode of his new six-part BBC2 series. So after thinking about doing something more useful with my time I decided to have a go. Does he mean it? It’s a remark like a lot of remarks in this episode. They can be taken as face value, they can be taken as a wry postmodern joke. Or maybe both. It's a very layered show, that's for sure. Not so much a comedy vehicle as a comedy Viennetta.

'I don't care, if we crash, I have a helicopter!' Comic Pranks BBC

Comedian Darius Davies found himself interviewed by BBC News this week about witnessing a drunken in-flight incident. Except that he did not witness it.

A Ryanair flight heading for Bratislava had been re-routed to Berlin due to the rowdy behaviour of a British stag party. The BBC had asked if anyone was one the flight and would like to comment.

Preview: Camping With Julia Davis Comes to Sky Atlantic

If casting is any guide – and it usually is – Sky's new comedy Camping should be very special indeed.

Nighty Night and Hunderby creator Julia Davis writes, directs and stars in this tale of a couples’ camping trip that goes horribly wrong*.

TV Review: Stag, BBC2

I don’t really need to tell you much about comedy chiller Stag. The cast should be enough of a selling point. Jim Howick, Reece Shearsmith, Rufus Jones and Tim Key as well as Stephen Campbell Moore, James Cosmo and Pilou Asbaek. If you don’t know some of the names you’ll certainly know the faces.

TV Review: Hospital People, BBC1

A new series of pilots kicks off with a medical comedy as sharp as a scalpel, brutally putting Jeremy Hunt and the NHS under the microscope. Actually no. Hospital People is more Carry On Nurse without the nurses and slightly misses a trick by not being particularly political. It is set in a fictional hospital and does at least touch on creeping NHS privatisation, but the main laughs are broad. And, praise be, there are plenty of them.

Controversial Dutch comedian Hans Teeuwen is returning to the UK for a tour in October and November 2016. After a six-year absence this is will be the first chance for British audiences to see his new show, Real Rancour.

Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Sarah Callaghan

I was going to say that Sarah Callaghan is one of comedy's best kept secrets, but she isn’t really that much of a secret. In 2015 she was nominated for the Malcolm Hardee ‘Act Most Likely To Make A Million Quid’ award and she has also been a finalist in the Funny Women and Leicester Square Theatre New Act Competitions. Her 2015 Edinburgh show, Elephant, was a pin-sharp mix of autobiography and stand-up as she stood onstage and talked about her suburban life growing up in the Heathrow flight path and dreaming of escape.
