National radio station Union JACK has commissioned three original comedy shows.
Launching on Monday 6 May 2019 at 09.00 is Union JACK’s Pundays, hosted by Colin Leggo (pictured), winner of one of Leicester Comedy Festival’s sell-out events, the 2019 UK Pun Championship. This day-long, weekly feature will see Union JACK ditch Mondays and replace them with Pundays, when listeners will be invited to flood the station with puns, based around a specific British topic, via the Union JACK app.
Comedian Nick Revell has been voted the favourite act of the Laugharne Weekend, the multicultural festival which took place in South Wales last week.
The final of the eleventh WeGotTickets Musical Comedy Awards has taken place at the Bloomsbury Theatre.
Eleven finalists competed for the prestigious title in a sold-out show compered by Nick Horseman.
And the winning act is Katie Pritchard, who wowed the judges with her comic historical songs.
Second place went to goofy duo Stepdads with their inventive guide to being a stepfather.
Third place went to skiful pop parodists Maris Piper, who also bagged the Audience Favourite award.
Comedian Ian Cognito has died.
Beyond The Joke has heard that he became ill onstage in Bicester on Thursday night where he was performing at the Lone Wolf Comedy Club. Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead. Reports say he had been taking medication for a heart condition.
Shane Allen, Controller of BBC Comedy, has announced that BBC Comedy and BBC Three is furthering its commitment to breaking new comedy talent with seven Threesome commissions per year, increasing opportunities for breakthrough comedy writers and performers.

After supporting Jason Manford and Michael McIntyre on their UK tours Andrew Bird is currently headlining his own Ha Ha Time tour.
Bird says: “I’m pretty excited about doing my own tour. I played to over half a million people supporting Michael McIntyre so everyone kept telling me to do my own tour. I’ve been working on loads of new material so it’s time to get out there, hope to see you along the way.”
