So many shows, so little time. Well actually so many shows, quite a lot of time. But still not long enough to do more than scratch the surface of comedy at the Fringe. I was at the Edinburgh Fringe 2019 for 23 days. And saw 91 shows. Not quite the most I’ve seen in a Fringe stint, but it may have been more. Some were free gigs with no tickets so I may not have made a note of them.

We meet a young man so lonely he has only a mop, a table and ashtray for company, an evil actor, the man who does everything by the book and a host of strangely eccentric British generals and camp dastardly Nazis.

The final week of the Edinburgh Fringe feels like it is full of comedians being up for all sorts of prizes, but this is an important one. Previous winners include Peter Kay, Dylan Moran and Lee Mack and more recently Aisling Bea and Tom Allen so this is a genuine feather in your comedy cap.

Edinburgh Fringe Review 2019 – Good Bear, Dougal, Pleasance Dome

The Dougal of the title is the lighting and sound technician behind the desk.

Henry Perryment and Joe Barnes play backstage staff, who have to fill in when the advertised act fails to show. 

Our plucky heroes are also at the mercy of Dougal, who plays tricks with the sound and lighting cues and who has an improbable dislike of swearing.

News: So You Think You’re Funny? Final - Results

Finlay Christie has won 2019’s So You Think You’re Funny? competition, the UK’s original comedy talent search celebrating its 32nd year. 

Following heats across the country, Finlay Christie was winner, with Shane Daniel Byrne coming in as first runner-up and Charlie George coming in as second runner-up.
