TV Review: The Nightly Show with John Bishop, ITV1

Can John Bishop save The Nightly Show? That is what ITV may well be asking behind closed doors. They might be putting on a brave face but after the critical drubbing David Walliams received last week a lot is riding on Bishop's five days in the hot seat.

John Bishop has been talking about filming in Rwanda for the ITV special John Bishop’s Gorilla Adventure, in which he encounters one of the most endangered animals on the planet.

Bishop spoke about the programme on The One Show on Thursday night and said getting close to the gorillas was one of the most moving experiences of his life. Opinion: The John Bishop Show – Primetime Comedy Digs Deep

When The John Bishop Show started seven weeks ago I wrote an opinion piece about how impressed I was that it had found some new talent for mainstream TV. The first episode featured Felicity Ward and James Acaster and was a pretty impressive statement of intent

Since then the show had come in for some stick on social media. Someone complained to me about the old school Tiller Girls kicking their exposed legs in the air. Others were not too impressed by Lee Nelson, who is hardly new talent having had his own BBC show already.
