Cognito died onstage in Bicester on April 11. Reports say he suffered a heart attack. He was 60.

News: Plan To Put Plaque Up For Ian Cognito

There are hopes that a memorial plaque will be put up at the venue where comedian Ian Cognito died on Thursday night.

The uncompromising stand-up passed away during his headline set at the Lone Wolf Comedy Club at the Atic in Bicester.

Venue owner Ryan Mold has written on Facebook that he and the compere on the night, Andrew Bird, are aiming to organise a plaque to put onstage in his memory.

Andrew Bird has also spoken to BTJ about working with Cognito, whose real name was Paul Barbieri.

The story has been picked up online and in the press and made BBC Radio news and it's accompanying website. As stand-up Alistair Barrie observed, Cognito, whose flavour of comedy was far too strong for television, finally made it onto the BBC.

Beyond The Joke has heard that he became ill onstage in Bicester on Thursday night where he was performing at the Lone Wolf Comedy Club. Paramedics were called but he was pronounced dead. Reports say he had been taking medication for a heart condition.
