News: Hammer Time – Hit The Nail On The Head To Mark Ian Cognito's Death

April 11th will be the one year anniversary of the sudden death of comedian Ian Cognito.

The famously anarchic stand-up, whose real name was Paul Barbieri, suffered a heart attack and died while performing at the Lone Wolf Comedy Club at the Atic in Bicester on Thursday, April 11, 2019.

Cognito's most notorious calling card was walking onstage, hammering a nail into the wall and hanging his coat on it before starting his set by saying "This lets you know two things about me. Firstly, I really don't give a shit. Secondly, I've got a hammer."

To mark his passing, Ryan Mold, the owner of the venue where Cognito died, is asking all comedians to upload a picture of themselves at 9pm on April 11 on their socials holding a hammer and using the hashtag #cognito

Cognito once said: "One day the world will be a better place, we will love each other and share things together. It won't be a something for nothing world or everything for some, but fair shares for all. We will live in a world where there is nothing to be gained from making people look small and putting others down, and when that day comes, I'm fucked."
