News: The Price Is Right For Alan Carr

  • Alan Carr is to host a remake of classic game show The Price Is Right. The show, which originally went out on ITV, spawned one of TV’s most iconic catchphrases in ‘Come On Down’. This version will air on Channel 4.

Alan Carr said “I'm so excited to be the new host of The Price is Right. It's proper bucket list territory for me as I loved it when I was growing up and now for me to be at the helm of such a legendary show is a dream come true.

Opinion: Another Chat Show, Another Man

So this week it was announced that The Michael McIntyre Chat Show will start on BBC1 in the Spring. It is no surprise that the network has found a new vehicle for the nation's skippiest stand-up star. And maybe no surprise that it's a chat show. McIntyre is great talker and, more importantly, also a great listener. Anyone who has seen him do small shows will know that he likes nothing better than banter with his audience, so hopefully the sparks will fly when he banters with his guests.

News: Superagent Addison Cresswell Dies

It is not an understatement to say that the British comedy world was rocked as well as shocked to hear yesterday that Addison Cresswell, one of the industry's most powerful agents, had suddenly died. He suffered a suspected heart attack in his sleep on Sunday night. He was 53. I think that the last time I saw him was at the British Comedy Awards earlier this month. I only caught a glimpse of him but he seemed to be his usual self, talking fifteen to the dozen to various comedy and media movers and shakers.

News: British Comedy Awards Xmas Singalong

In case you have missed them so far, here are the results of last night's British Comedy Awards.

Review: Brighton Comedy Festival Opening Gala, Brighton Dome

The Brighton Comedy Festival is the first really notable festival after Edinburgh and brings a number of Fringe hits to the south coast this year, such as Bridget Christie and Sara Pascoe, alongside innovative new shows. This year's fun started in familiar style with the big guns from management company Off The Kerb helping to raise funds for local HIV charity Sussex Beacon.

Opinion: The Best Kept Secrets in Stand-Up

The O2 Arena or Ye Olde Rose & Crown in Walthamstow? For me there is not really any choice. Last night arena-filler Alan Carr popped into the north London pub to try out some new material. It was the kind of surprise that makes a good pub gig into an unforgettable pub gig. And it is the sort of thing that can only really happen in comedy.

Classic Interview: Bafta Nominee Alan Carr
