The winners of The Malcolm Hardee Awards 2023 have been revealed.
The trophies - handed out in the memory of comic, agent, manager, club-owner and prankster Malcolm Hardee - celebrate and promote the spirit of anything-goes comedy anarchy at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Comic Originality: Phil Ellis
Robin Ince is well known among his fans for going over his allotted time, but for this show he went in the other direction. He started before his allotted time. I walked in bang on 1pm as is my wont and Ince was already in full flow. Corduroy jacket on. Book in hand. A few piles of books by his side. I'd not only missed some pre-gig preamble but he'd already handed out cards asking his audience to list books that had helped them to be more empathetic.
I was so shocked by Martin Urbano's material that it took me a few minutes to get my head around it. Was this an American version of Jerry Sadowitz, pushing the offensiveness envelope as far as it would go?

The winner of the 36th edition of the iconic So You Think You’re Funny? - the UK’s most prestigious comedy newcomer competition – has been announced. Samira Banks is this year's winner.
Chris Donovan and Lizzie Norm came second and third place respectively, with each performer ensuring fans at the final enjoyed an evening of laughter following over 400 initial applicants for the competition.
New York comedian Chloe Radcliffe calls her show Cheat "a one-woman show but a 29 man show". It's a canny description for an hour in her company in which she dissects and discusses the nature of infidelity and in particular, her own predilection for not sticking to one partner. Radcliffe is more of a serial monogamist than whatever the female equivalent is of a man who can't keep his dick in his pants, and this enthralling piece gives some insight into why she is the way she is.
