As a reviewer I think one should try to judge a gig on what you see in front of you. But as hard as you try there is always a risk that the back story and knowledge of the performer’s offstage life might get in the way. Sometimes this doesn’t matter, a performance is just that, a performance, and it can be reviewed on that basis. But I have a feeling this is getting increasingly difficult for a number of reasons, but mainly due to social media.

Noel Fielding has spoken exclusively to Beyond The Joke about his role in the second series of Ben Elton's Shakespearean sitcom Upstart Crow.
Fielding recently finished filming his role as a glamorous Elizabethan musician who collaborates with Shakespeare on a comedy in the episode entitled Food of Love. "I play Thomas Morley, who writes popular madrigals! He is a kind of rock star of his day. It was great fun!"

It’s the ultimate mash-up nobody could have predicted. Donald Trump has collided with Bridget Jones in the parody Twtter account Bridget Trump’s Diary.
The account was created earlier this month by comedian Tiffany Stevenson, who simply imagined what the tweets of the fictional character played by Renee Zellweger would look like if they were written by the 45th President of America.
Set to broadcast in 2018 on Amazon Prime Video and the BBC, Good Omens is written by Gaiman, who will also serve as Showrunner.
