Interview
Cunk on Britain is currently being repeated on BBC Two on Tuesday nights at 10pm so this interview with its star Diane Morgan, which ran in the Evening Standard here when it first went out in 2018 might be worth another read..
You could say Ben Elton was one of the lucky ones in terms of Covid cancellations. At least the stage version of Upstart Crow, starring David Mitchell as the bard, opened in the West End, even if it had to close early. It must have been frustrating though for everyone concerned becasue it got great reviews.
On March 11, 2020, I went to see Dave's Edinburgh Comedy Award Best Newcomer 2019, New York-based Catherine Cohen, at Bush Hall in West London – the first night of a sell-out run – and filed a review for the Evening Standard which you can read here. The review starts by saying that Cohen leaves you wanting more. She certainly did.
I interviewed Ahir Shah in March 2020 to promote the filming of his hit show for HBO Max later that month. The interview ran in the Evening Standard on March 16 – you can read the original version here – and, well, you know what happened next. The gig was cancelled. The show was finally filmed earlier this year. at the Vaudeville Theatre. Shah is also going out on tour later this year.
Comedian Mo Gilligan is back with The Lateish Show on Friday nights at 10pm on C4. He chats about the show and lots more below.
Since The Lateish Show’s debut in July 2019, you’ve won BAFTA and RTS Awards, joined the judging panel on The Masked Singer and Dancer, written a book, presented a series from home, fronted a documentary, announced your There’s Mo To Life tour, filmed Celebrity Gogglebox with Babatundé Aléshé and we’ve been through a pandemic. So not busy at all then?
Jerk starring Tim Renkow, Sharon Rooney, Rob Madin and Lorraine Bracco is set to return to the BBC.
The comedy follows the life of acclaimed stand up Tim Renkow, who plays a heightened version of himself; a man who uses the fact that he has cerebral palsy to try and get away with anything.
Alan Davies returns to Dave for a new series of chat show As Yet Untitled. It’s completely unscripted, unprepared and unrehearsed.
Zuu, Tubsey and Hyder cook for their first New Zealander in Big Zuu's Big Eats – comic, actor and writer Rose Matafeo. Watch the show on Dave on July 12 at 10pm.
Rose is a huge fan of K-pop and having enrolled in an energetic dance class wants Zuu and the boys to cook her a post work-out feast.
Intelligence, the comedy set in the world of surveillance, returns to Sky One for a second series. When a pompous, maverick NSA agent (David Schwimmer) comes over from the U.S. to join the team, he enlists an inept and tactless computer analyst (Nick Mohammed) in a power grab that threatens to disrupt the team’s ability to combat cyber terrorism. Here its stars David Schwimmer and Nick Mohammed discussed working together on the hit show.
Comedian and committed foodie James Acaster is one of the guests on the new series of Big Zuu's Big Eats, which airs on Dave on Mondays at 10pm. The Acaster episode is on June 14.
Acaster has asked hosts Zuu, Tubsey and Hyder to bring their food van to Crystal Palace, South London where he is recording the latest episode of his hit podcast “Off Menu”
