East Londoner Bilal Zafar has been chosen as 'Top of the Bill' at this year's New Acts of the Year final at the Leicester Square Theatre. The competition, which used to be held at the Hackney Empire, no longer chooses winners, but Zafar was chosen as the best act by the judges today.

Louis CK has released a new online comedy today without any advance publicity or warning or previews. Though it is actually more of a play or a comedy drama than a sitcom. There is no studio audience.
Being a comedian often seems like a way of refusing to grow up, settle down and become an adult. No boring mortgages for these dudes eh? Add to that a general feeling these days that nobody wants to grow old – hey, 50 is the new 20 – and Isy Suttie’s first book definitely feels like it is catching a wave.
I missed the press night of this new play about comedian Marty Feldman so I booked a ticket for the next night. Then I made a fatal error. I read the reviews. This play had received such bad notices that I thought about checking with the venue to see if the run had already closed. I thought of that scene in The Producers where they have a sign saying Opening Night that switches to Closing Night as soon as the first disappointed audience leaves the theatre.
