Opinion: Things In Comedy That Blow My Mind

Mrs Merton Meets Mrs Merton

Paul Merton used to be married to Caroline Quentin, so her married name would be Mrs Merton.

Caroline Aherne played a character called Mrs Merton.

In real life Caroline Aherne was married to Peter Hook so her married name would have been Caroline Hook.

TV Review: Out Of Her Mind, BBC Two

Sara Pascoe’s self-penned new comedy is not backwards in coming forwards. As she says at the start,”I am going to destroy your faith in love.” Mrs Brown’s Boys this ain’t, even if she does address the viewer/audience just like the Irish mainstream sitcom. Out Of Her Mind is much better than that. It might just be my favourite sitcom of 2020.

TV: Out Of Her Mind, BBC Two

Sara Pascoe’s self-penned new comedy is not backwards in coming forwards. As she says at the start,”I am going to destroy your faith in love.” Mrs Brown’s Boys this ain’t then. But it might just be my new all-time favourite sitcom.

Pascoe stars as Sara, a single thirtysomething whose sister (Fiona Button) is getting married, her best friend (Cariad Lloyd) is pregnant and pretty much everybody else in her age category seems to be hitched up in a relationship.
