Book Review: Animal: The Autobiography of a Female Body, by Sara Pascoe

A couple of years ago every stand-up with a TV credit under their belt seemed to be knocking out an autobiography as if they were going out of style. Sara Pascoe’s first book is very different to that. Animal is more anthropology than autobiography. No mention of life on the road, big breaks or meeting celebrities, this is more of a self-help manual. Mainly for young women I would suggest, but all women and all men should read it too.

The Funny Women Awards have announced their celebrity mentors.

The finalists of the Stage Award, which takes place at Koko in Camden on September 28 and is compered by Kerry Godliman, can look forward to expert advice from Zoe Lyons, Doon Mackichan, Shazia Mirza, Sara Pascoe, Tiffany Stevenson and Ellie Taylor.

News: Funny Women 2016 Launches – Register Now

The 2016 Funny Women Awards has been launched, with new categories and a new venue for the final.
 

Since 2003 Funny Women has seen over 2500 contestants go through hundreds of heats. Previous winners and finalists include Bridget Christie, Zoe Lyons, Sara Pascoe and Katherine Ryan. This year the awards will visit Dublin, Edinburgh, Manchester, London and Brighton in the search for new queens of comedy.

News: Sara Pascoe To Launch Literary Salon

 

Sara Pascoe is launching a new monthly literary salon in London. Sara Pascoe’s Literary Salon will take place downstairs at The Book Club in Shoreditch. 

Pascoe came up with the idea for this event after being inspired by the intimate space downstairs at The Book Club, which seats no more than 70. Sara’s Literary Salon will see fictional and long dead writers perform stories, poems and plays with audience participation around the night’s theme strongly encouraged.

News: Sara Pascoe Nominated For Major Award

Sara Pascoe has been nominated for the Times/South Bank Breakthrough Award. 

The other nominees are actor Luke Pasqualino, classical musician Luke Bedford, visual artist James Capper, opera tenor Nicky Spence, actor Gugu Mbatha-Raw, dancer Francesca Hayward, musician LoneLady,  writer Emma Healey and theatre group 1927.

Pascoe was nominated for an Edinburgh Comedy Award last August and was recently seen in BBC comedy W1A
