News: Derry Girls To Return For Third C4 Series

Award-winning hit comedy Derry Girls has been commissioned for a third series by Ian Katz, Channel 4 Director of Programmes, Head of Comedy Fiona McDermott and Commissioning Editor Jack Bayles.

Derry Girls, Mum, Sally4Ever, The Last Leg and Would I Lie To You? are among the nominees for Bafta TV Awards announced today.

Mum, written by Stefan Golaszewski is nominated for four awards. Julia Davis’ Sally4Ever has three nominations. Would I Lie To You? is also up for three awards. The Bros documentary, when The Screaming Stops, which was considered by many to be a very funny programme, is also up for three awards, although not in any comedy categories. The winners will be announced on Sunday, 12 May.

News: Derry Girls Get The Mural Treatment

Channel 4 has today launched its full marketing campaign for the new series of hit comedy, Derry Girls, produced by 4Creative for Channel 4 Marketing.

Inspired by the tradition of murals in Derry, the campaign features at its heart posters of a celebratory mural of the cast commissioned by Channel 4 and created by Derry not-for-profit social enterprise group, UV Arts. This kick-started the project and gained traction on social media last month.

News: Derry Girls Wins Broadcast Award

Channel 4 comedy Derry Girls has won the award for Best Comedy at the Broadcast Awards.

The comedy set during the troubles in Ireland and written by Lisa McGee was decribed by the judges as “an original take on the subject, with excellent cast and characterisation" and a “timely triumph”.

A second series airs this Spring.

News: Derry Girls To Stream On Netflix

Netflix has acquired Channel 4 hit Derry Girls. The series, written by Lisa McGee, will still be going out on Channel 4 but the first series will be available on the streaming site from December 21 according to this report.

News: Derry Girls Beats Inside No. 9 In Nailbiting Comedy Champion Vote

Channel 4's Derry Girls has beaten BBC's Inside No. 9 in a tense Radio Times vote to find this year's Comedy Champion.

The result went to the wire and the leaders kept changing place. Almost a million votes were cast as those involved encouraged their supporters to vote - in this polls fans were allowed to vote as many times as they wanted.

When the virtual polling booths closed at 10pm Derry Girls had 50.1% of the vote to Inside No 9’s 49.9% – 462,946 votes to 461,140.

News: Derry Girls Breaks Ratings Record In Ireland

Derry Girls has become the biggest-ever series in Northern Ireland since modern records began in 2002.

The comedy, set in the early nineties during The Troubles, averaged with 519k and 64.2% share of the audience. It reached 54% of the Northern Irish TV audience, including 65% of 16-34 year old viewers (taking account of time-shifted viewing on a television over a seven day period).
