Director Nick Steel has given this year’s Bath Plug Award (for outstanding services to comedy) to Julian Clary, at the end of a hilarious one-off performance at Bath Forum which heralded the end of this year’s Bath Comedy Festival.
Co-creator of the Bath Plug Award, Comedy Historian and Author Jem Roberts said:
The final episode of Scared of the Dark airs tonight at 9pm on Channel 4. A Crowdfunding campaign has been organised to raise funds to set up a trust fund for the two young children of Gareth Richards. The 41-year-old comedian died on Good Friday after being involved in a car crash on the M25.
The fund was set up by his management Mirth Control. The aim was to raise £500, but at the time of writing the fund had already exceeded its target and raised £1837 (update - this story was published yesterday, the figure has gone up to over £13000).
