News: The Establishment Club Makes A Day Of It

Scott Capurro

The Establishment Club, previously revived as a late-night event at Ronnie Scotts is to rise again, but this time as a Sunday lunchtime affair at Bentley's Oyster Bar and Grill. The first event will take place on December 15 and the eclectic line-up includes Scott Capurro (pictured), Professor Laurie Taylor, Man Booker prize-winning novelist Howard Jacobson, Scottish comic Arnold Brown and music from Niggaz with Croissants and other surprise guests. As before Keith Allen will be master of ceremonies.

Fans can choose between a ticket just for the show for £20 or the show and a three-course lunch for £49 in Richard Corrigan’s restaurant just off Piccadilly. The original Establishment Club was founded by Peter Cook and featured the likes of Lenny Bruce and Barry Humphries and famously revived the career of Frankie Howerd. Five decades on, Victor-Lewis Smith, with the blessing of Peter's widow Lin, has teamed up with Allen and Laughing Stock Recordings supremo Mike O'Brien to bring back the club and challenge the current tedium of the status quo.

Previous guests at the revived nights have ranged from Stephen Fry to George Galloway to Irish rock band The Strypes.
