Interview
It’s that time of year again when Weirdos Comedy Club and Laugh Out London put on their annual alternative pantomime. This year it is at the Leicester Square Theatre from December 7 - 9. All funds go to Great Ormond Street Hospital
Note: Interview supplied by Channel 4. But it is still worth a read!
Using a series of Victorian guidebooks written by Mr & Mrs S C Hall to tempt the English over to Ireland, Ardal meets the people who make the country the great nation it is. He roams from small towns to idiosyncratic attractions, detours from pulpit to pub and rejoices in the unique festivities and characters you can only find in Ireland.
Ireland with Ardal O’Hanlon starts Wednesday 14th December at 9pm on More4.
Tell us a bit about series two of Michael McIntyre’s Big Show?
The show has naturally evolved from the first series and now everything has gone up a notch. We have lots of entertainment items running through the show, audience surprises, Unexpected Star, Send To All, stand up and much more. Knowing that series one was a success has allowed us to expand the ideas for series two and explore more parts of it, we have tried to make them even more fun and be more confident with them.
Londoners don't get many chances to see stand-up powerhouse Daniel Sloss onstage. If he is not playing Estonia or Zagreb on a European tour or appearing on British television he is guesting on American TV – he has become a regular on Conan O'Brian's talk show. Sloss is maturing into a fine, provocative, thoughtful comedian, taking on big issues and leaving his smutty teenage gags behind. Well, mostly behind. Catch his latest show, So, when it comes to the Soho Theatre from Dec 5 - 10.
Pete Firman has been entertaining audiences for over a decade now with his excellently chirpy brand of comedy magic. I can remember him on Five’s Monkey Magic yonks ago and since then the Middlesbrough magician has become a fixture on the Fringe and TV, almost as famous for his cheesy patter as he is for his brilliant tricks. Basically he makes things appear and disappear before your very eyes in amazing, mindblowing ways and he does it with such friendly aplomb that everyone loves him.
There has been talk recently about the lack of old comedians on our TV screens, but age does not seem to have held seasoned Canadian Mike Wilmot back. He has appeared on Live at the Apollo and with Rich Hall on Rich Hall’s Cattle Drive and Fishing Show. The only thing holding Wilmot back from wider exposure might be his beyond-the-knuckle subject matter. Among other things he talks about sex and old age and sex in old age with a scrupulous eye for both detail and authenticity.
Jenny Eclair is getting some of the best reviews of her career for her latest show, How To Be A Middle-Aged Woman (Without Going Insane).
There aren't many comedians over eighty years old working on the comedy circuit, but American stand-up Lynn Ruth Miller would be pretty special if she was half her age. She only took up comedy a few years ago and has quickly made a name for herself as a witty, candid and bawdy stand-up and cabaret performer. In 2013 she won Time Out and Soho Theatre's TO&ST Edinburgh Cabaret Award and she is even better than that now.
James Mullinger is a comedian who moved from London to Canada and has enjoyed enormous success in his adopted homeland. Last year he did a gig at the Harbour Station stadium arena in Saint John and sold more tickets than Guns N Roses, Iron Maiden, Alice Cooper and his comedy hero Jerry Seinfeld. Canadian television has even made a documentary about Mullinger's career.
More details have been revealed about Celebrity Haunted Hotel, the forthcoming series being broadcast across the week on the W Channel in the run-up to Halloween. Comedian Matt Richardson will be part of the team alongside Christine Lampard and Jamie East. In this interview he talks about his new TV job and his own experiences of the paranormal.
