News: Dave Gorman Extends Tour

It was announced today (25th June 2014) that Dave Gorman will add four shows at London’s Southbank Centre to his brand new tour, Dave Gorman Gets Straight To The Point... (The PowerPoint). The new dates will see the award-winning comedian perform from Tuesday 16th to Friday 19th December at the Queen Elizabeth Hall, and will be in addition to his original London date at Hammersmith Apollo on 15th November.

Edinburgh Fringe Preview: Paul Chowdhry

When it comes to winning over an audience Paul Chowdhry doesn’t take the easy route. It is interesting that while he shares management with the likes of Michael McIntyre and Lee Evans, his observational humour has much more of a sting in the tale. As the title of his current show, PC’s World, suggests, Chowdhry likes to home in on race and prejudice. I’ve seen his provocative "what's happening, white people?" schtick go down really well.

News: Phoenix Fringe Announces Line-Up

After a successful first flight in August 2013 and a Winter Weekender that kept the comedy embers burning over the cold, bleak months, the Phoenix Fringe is rising again. Among those appearing at this year's festival, which runs from August 2 - 9, are Frankie Boyle, Al Murray, Aisling Bea and Nick Helm.

The Phoenix Fringe hatched from a Tiffany Stevenson hangover. As the ‘fizzy pink’ haze cleared, the night’s reflections on the dwindling outlets for new, inventive and alternative comedy retained their significance.

Not Edinburgh Fringe Preview: Jeremy Hardy

Jeremy Hardy isn't doing the Edinburgh Fringe this year – not according to the Fringe website anyway. But somehow he has sneaked into the Red Imp comedy club's preview season alongside the likes of Tony Law, Kerry Godliman and Richard Herring. Well, in the same way we give up our seats to war veterans on the bus, we can make an exception for someone of his seniority and also his significance.

Edinburgh Fringe Preview: It Might Get Ugly

I’ve got slight misgivings about recommending a show that I've never seen where the blurb boldly claims it is about to “take Edinburgh Festival Fringe by storm”. But this might be an interesting one. Comedian Karl Schultz hosts a one-off preview tonight of the show where comedians get onstage and talk honestly about something to the point of regret. In the past Bridget Christie, Brett Goldstein, Romesh Ranganathan, John Kearns, Carl Donnelly, Liam Williams and Aisling Bea have been among those to ‘fess up.

News: Ardal O'Hanlon to Star in New Comedy

Ardal O’Hanlon (Father Ted, My Hero) and John Thomson (Cold Feet, The Fast Show) are to star with Jaime Winstone in After Hours, a new six-part comedy drama written by Molly Naylor and John Osborne.

News: Susan Calman UK Tour Dates

Susan Calman will be touring the UK this September fresh from her run at the Edinburgh Festival. Lady Like will start in Teddington on September 25 and finish in Norwich on December 13. Further dates in Ireland, Scotland and Wales in 2015 will be announced at a later date.

Preview: The Week Ahead June 23 - 29

The City of London Festival kicks off this week and it has a pretty impressive comedy line-up. But then it should have – the guy running it is Paul Gudgin, who previously ran the Edinburgh Fringe, so he should know a thing or three about stand-up. The shows are a mixture of finished product and Edinburgh warm-ups.

Edinburgh Fringe Preview: Josh Widdicombe

Today’s pick of the previews is so obviously essential viewing I hardly need to write any more. Josh Widdicombe and Romesh Ranganathan are running out their latest material – though in Widdcombe’s case he isn't doing a full Edinburgh run, but broadcasting his XFM live show from the Fringe. We’ve written about Ranganathan before so let’s focus on Widdicombe here. Since coming to prominence with The Last Leg has become a TV panel game regular. A small cavil though. If possible too regular.

News: Romesh Ranganathan Announces UK Tour

Edinburgh Comedy Awards Best Newcomer 2013 nominee and regular host of BBC Radio 4’s Newsjack and C4’s Stand Up For The Week, Romesh Ranganathan will be performing his new show Rom Wasn’t Built In A Day on his debut UK tour. The tour follows a run at this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

The former schoolteacher is one the most exciting new comedians breaking through in the UK.  With a uniquely fresh stage presence, Romesh uses his trademark acerbic wit in his attempt to understand what the hell life is all about.
