Edinburgh Fringe Preview: Josh Widdicombe

Today’s pick of the previews is so obviously essential viewing I hardly need to write any more. Josh Widdicombe and Romesh Ranganathan are running out their latest material – though in Widdcombe’s case he isn't doing a full Edinburgh run, but broadcasting his XFM live show from the Fringe. We’ve written about Ranganathan before so let’s focus on Widdicombe here. Since coming to prominence with The Last Leg has become a TV panel game regular. A small cavil though. If possible too regular. The other week I was channel surfing and he was on two different shows at the same time. I know Widdicombe is everywhere these days but not even this ex-sports journalist can be in two places at the same time. His latest project is different though. It's a new pilot for the BBC Feeds series, entitled Josh, which is a flatshare sitcom and is out online on July 20. Widdicombe’s pin-sharp observational humour has led to comparisons with Seinfeld in the past and this could continue those comparisons, although Widdicombe has assured me that it is significantly different. Anyway, catch him and Ranganathan tonight at The Tommyfield in Kennington. It's so tasty it may well be sold out though, in which case make sure you catch Widdicombe somewhere else on a different night. Unless he is doing two gigs in two different places at the same time tonight.

Josh Widdicombe XFM show Live! is at The Assembly George Square Studios from August 9 - 12. Tickets here.
