News: Tom Binns Sets Up Campaign to Kickstart Live Comedy With Drive-In Shows

Comedian Tom Binns is hoping to get the live comedy circuit moving again – with socially distanced drive-in comedy gigs.

Binns (aka Hospital DJ Ivan Brackenbury) got the idea from romantic drive-in cinemas in America. "It will be just like the ones you've seen in the movies but with live comedy and rain and it will probably be in a Lidl car park."

Multi-award winning comedian Tom Binns is going on tour in 2020 in the guise of The Psychic Comedium. He will be supported by Binns in the guise of hospital radio DJ Ivan Brackenbury.

Binns has entertained and amazed psychic sceptics and believers alike on his own BBC Radio 2 series ‘Ian D Montfort is: Unbelievable’ and in Binns' critically acclaimed BBC1 Friday night series Hospital People.

Fringe Festival favourite and award-winning character comedian Tom Binns is embarking on his first UK tour in a decade, with a brand new show Everyman. With an initial 11 dates, the tour will begin at Nottingham’s Glee Club on 11th October 2018 and conclude in Newcastle at The Stand on 20th November 2018. Tickets go on sale on Wednesday 30th May 2018 at

After a week off to squeeze in the Masterchef Final Hospital People returns and it is as if it has never been away. No, really. The comedy is as broad as ever, the jokes are definitely as cheesy as ever. 

There is a big guest star though this week. Russell Brand plays nutritionist Tyler Watt, who is brought in to radicalise Brimlington hospital’s menus after head porter Big John dies. Manager Susan Mitchell doesn’t seem to mind patients dying all the time, but when a member of staff pops their clogs this is different.

Every autumn I judge a competition for UK Gold to find new jokes for Christmas crackers. Tom Binns should enter - the humour in his multi-character-based vehicle Hospital People is just the right mix of corn and cheese for my yuletide challenge.

Assembly Festival has announced the first half of its Edinburgh Fringe 2017 programme.

This year marks Assembly's return to its old home the Assembly Rooms on George Street in the New Town as well as continuing with its newer venues in George Square in the Old Town (keep up...). 

News: Transmission Details Revealed For Tom Binns' Hospital People Series

The transmission details have been confirmed for the first series of Hospital People starring character comedian Tom Binns.

The sitcom will start on BBC1 on Friday 21st April at 9:30pm and then all six episodes will be immediately available to watch on iPlayer.


News: Filming Starts On Tom Binns Sitcom Hospital People

Filming has begun on the new BBC One comedy, Hospital People.
Familiar faces appearing in the fictional Brimlington Hospital through the series will include Sally Phillips (Miranda), Russell Brand, Sian Gibson (Car Share), Alex MacQueen (The Inbetweeners), Mark Williams (Father Brown) and James Fleet (The Vicar of Dibley).
