The finalists have been announced for this year's Leicester Square Theatre New Comedian of the Year competition.
The best acts from almost 40 heats will compete in the grand final in Leicester Square Theatre's Main House for the cash prize & the coveted title of New Comedian of the Year.
I previously saw a version of Evita Too at the Soho Theatre a few years ago. Now that it has expanded and moved to the South Bank ("our biggest shit yet" they announce) I suppose there is the slimmest of chances someone might accidentally buy a ticket thinking they are going to get Don't Cry For Mr Argentina.
But stand down those lawyers, there is definitely no attempt to pass this off as a version of the famous musical.
Beth Steel's play first opened at the National Theatre's relatively intimate Dorfman auditorium where it received rave reviews. It has now transferred to the West End. Judging by the trailers that have been cropping up on my socials, it's being sold as a raucous, ribald piece about a chaotic, comic, Prosecco-fuelled wedding.
Comedy star Vicki Pepperdine (Poor Things, Getting On, Dear Joan and Jericha) will appear alongside Kiell Smith-Bynoe (Ghosts, Stath Lets Flats, Taskmaster, Man Like Mobeen) and Dan Skinner (Shooting Stars, This Time with Alan Partridge, The Kennedys) in a new production of Nikolai Gogol’s satirical masterpiece, THE GOVERNMENT INSPECTOR, premiering at the Marylebone Theatre from 3 May – 15 June 2024, with
