Live Review: Fleabag, Soho Theatre

This was interesting. I’ve never been to a performance in a theatre that felt so much like a cross between a rock gig by your favourite band and a victory lap of honour. Having gathered various stage prizes Phoebe Waller-Bridge’s play was then adapted for BBC3 and will no doubt go on to collect TV awards by the bucketload in the next few months.

Live Review: Tony Law, Leicester Square Theatre

Sometimes there is a thin line between watching a stand-up comedy gig and watching somebody have a mental meltdown onstage. The latest show from Tony Law, A Law Undo His-elf What Welcome, feels like one of those occasions. Certainly last night anyway. This was the kind of lunacy that should either win awards or prompt someone to call a doctor.

Live Review: Shirley Ghostman, Bush Hall, W12

It’s not often I change my mind about seeing a show. Once it drops off the reviews list it has missed its moment. I was too busy to see spoof psychic Shirley Ghostman’s “Spooktacular” opening night, but when I looked on Twitter and saw enthusiastic reports from comedians whose opinion I respect, such as Reece Shearsmith and Richard Herring, plus a lot of fans excited about it, I thought I’d better check it out. And I didn’t regret it. Who could have predicted that?

Live Review: Lolly Adefope, Soho Theatre

This review first appeared in the Evening Standard here.

There is always one excellent performer that the Edinburgh Comedy Award judges seem hell bent on overlooking and in 2015 it was Lolly Adefope. The versatile young comedian gathered great reviews and enthusiastic word-of-mouth buzz yet bizarrely the panel dismissed her.
