News: BBC Director-General Tony Hall Stands Down

Tony Hall, Lord Hall of Birkenhead CBE, has announced that he will stand down from the role of BBC Director-General this summer.

The Chairman of the BBC, Sir David Clementi, says: “Tony Hall is an inspirational creative leader, within the UK and around the globe, and the BBC has been lucky to have him as our Director-General for the last seven years.

News: BBC Three Brings My Left Nut To The Screen

Based on the award-winning stage play, My Left Nut is a coming of age comedy drama about friendship, family, grief and testicles written by Irish newcomers Michael Patrick and Oisín Kearney in their first project for the BBC.

The story is based on real life events after Michael found a swelling on his testicle when he was fifteen.

News: BBC Writers Room Wales Find Me Funny Shortlist Announced.

The shortlist has been announced for Find Me Funny, the BBC Cymru Wales search for the next generation of comedy writers. From this shortlist up to three new comedy pilots will be made for BBC One Wales and BBC iPlayer.

From 349 submissions the following 8 scripts have been chosen and are now being considered by a judging panel.

News: New Comedy Commissioning Editor Appointed At BBC

Shane Allen, Controller, Comedy Commissioning, has appointed producer Alex Moody to his commissioning team, replacing Chris Sussman who has moved to head up the comedy department at BBC Studios.

In her role as Commissioning Editor, Alex joins Kristian Smith and Kate Daughton on Shane’s team, and her slate will include Cuckoo, People Just Do Nothing, BBC Three Comedy feeds, I Want My Wife Back and Charlie Brooker’s Weekly Wipe.

News: New BBC Comedy Boss Appointed

Chris Sussman, currently Commissioning Editor for Comedy at the BBC, has been appointed Head of Comedy, BBC Studios. He will be taking up the role from the beginning of April.

He will be responsible for leading the BBC Studios Comedy team across the UK in TV, radio and online. He will manage the existing slate of productions and take the lead in developing new hit shows and working with diverse comedy writers and performers.
