Interview: Alex Horne On Taskmaster Series Seven

What’s this series like, Alex?

I think it might be our favourite one, which sounds like that’s the sort of thing you say every series. But it’s really good fun and brilliant.

What’s so good about it: is it the contestants or the tasks?

The Horne Section take their show back on tour from the 8th September to 30th May 2018, including a return of their Soho Theatre residency in London.

This is where music and comedy collide, creating a show packed with brass-based fun. Expect toe-tapping tunes on weighty issues such as beards, caveats and Scottish widows.

Review: Alex Horne, Monsieur Butterfly

Alex Horne is one of comedy's smartest, most innovative comedians. He can do straighrforward gags and wordplay, but that's not enough for him. He has done shows about science, Latin, gambling, all sorts of things. His latest show, Monsieur Butterfly, picked up a Foster's Award nomination last summer and is a highly inventive piece of comedy. To say too much would spoil the fun a little. If you need cheering up, just go.

News: Tony Law & Alex Horne Confirmed For Barnard Castle Festival

Tony Law and Alex Horne have been confirmed as the first two major guests playing the inaugural Barnard Castle Festival. The Festival will take place in the County Durham town on July 18.

Law will be performing his brand new show, dubbed Nonsense in Progress, while Horne will be performing an extended version of his 2014 Foster's Award-nominated show Monsieur Butterfly.

Six shows will take place throughout the day in the venue's main hall, with regular intervals so punters can take in the local amenities

News: Greg Davies Becomes Taskmaster Host

Greg Davies is to host a TV version of Taskmaster, the live show devised by Alex Horne in which comedians compete against each other in a series of unlikely challenges. The show will be broadcast by Dave. Horne will appear as right-hand man and also has a credit as producer.

The idea is to demonstrate how creative and seriously competitive comedians are.  Rivalry will be encouraged, dodgy tactics rewarded and bribes will be accepted in what is set to be the most the most dogged, hard-fought and ridiculous comedy show on TV.

The Week Ahead: Nov 24 - 30

One of the finest comedy variety nights out is Alex Horne's Horne Section and our host has just announced a special lunchtime Christmas edition on Dec 18. This week, however, he returns to the day job with the London transfer of this year's Edinburgh Fringe solo show, Lies, at the Soho Theatre from Monday.

News: Edinburgh Comedy Awards – Exclusive Pictures

So that's Edinburgh done for another year. Here are some pictures from Saturday's Foster's Comedy Awards ceremony. I don't even remember taking most of them so I must have been having a good time. All pics © copyright Bruce Dessau/Beyondthejoke.
