TV Review: Damned, C4

After Getting On and Going Forward Damned feels like the third part in a trilogy of gritty state-of-the-nation workplace comedies starring Jo Brand. But in fact this one, set in a childrens social services office, actually predates Going Forward. A one-off pilot went out on Sky Arts in 2014 but for whatever reason it is C4 that has made this six-part series. And I bet it cost them a lot less than The Great British Bake Off.

TV, Alan Davies As Yet Untitled, Dave

It’s a fiendishly simple format. Get a bunch of motormouth, attention-craving comics round a table, light the blue touch paper and stand back. It is no surprise that this series, in which the title of each episode is chosen from the stories, is back for a third run.

TV Review: QI, BBC2

I don’t know if the QI team knew that Stephen Fry was quitting at the end of the series before they filmed the first episode, but there was one question that seemed to suggest they had an inkling. The programme had a medical theme and at one point Fry asked what part of your body can you live without.

Preview: The Week Ahead – Sept 29 - Oct 6

You could say that Lucy Beaumont is having a good year. She recently got engaged to Jon Richardson and she picked up a Foster’s Award Best Newcomer nomination for her full-length Edinburgh Fringe debut, We Can Twerk It Out. Funnily Jon Richardson was sitting next to me when I saw the show back in August. Maybe he was there every day. And the funnier thing is that part of the show is about Beaumont’s hunt for her perfect man, when all along he was sitting three rows back in a tin hut in Scotland.

News: US Comic Hits Out At New TV Show

Update 19/6/14: Interesting update from Paul Provenza overnight. I received a Tweet from Provenza saying "We've resolved our issues" regarding his annoyance with the new Dave series, As Yet Untitled. Here are his joined-up Tweets explaining further: "Had a brilliant Skype with Alan Davies re #Asyetuntitled & Green Room with Paul Provenza. Happy to say we agreed on so much: First, we agreed that we really all should be caring about those still missing girls instead of about any dopey TV shows.
