News: Second Series for After Life After Rave Reviews?

The new Ricky Gervais Netflix series After Life has received rave reviews, prompting the question of whether there will be more episodes.

The six-part series started streaming globally on March 8 and Gervais has tweeted that he is getting so many tweets from people saying that they love it that he has not been able to reply to all of them.

The critics have also been unanimous in their praise of the series in which Gervais plays a reporter looking for meaning to life following the death of his wife, played by Kerru Godliman.

The Guardian wrote: "For the first time since The Office, he has made a show with humanity and heart."

Vice called it: "bleak, bitter, cynical and, in the end, sincerely uplifting."

Entertainment Weekly called it: "brutal, heartbreaking, and hilarious in "After Life":"

The Radio Times called it his "most visually accomplished series yet" and said that there were brilliant performances in it.

So the question people are starting to ask is will there be a second series? While the final episode of the first series seems to round things off nicely the narative was left open enough for there to be a sequel. On the Netflix website it is tantalisingly billed as "Season 1"

And talking to Robert Elms on BBC London just before After Life was streamed Gervais certainly hinted that a second series was not out of the question. "I'm thinking about it. I've got quite excited about a few ways it can go. If everyone loves it and Netflix have got any money left then, yeah, I think I will. I fell in love with the characters and the storyline."

The only problem might be when Gervais can find the time to write and film a second series. He has recently been spending a lot of time working on material for his next live tour, entitled Supernature, and he has said that once he performing it he will be on the road around the world for 18 months.

For those hoping for more After Life there is something that may appear in the near future. Gervais has also tweeted that at some point he will release outtakes, as he has done with previous comedies.
