Interview: Rarely Asked Questions – Jon Pointing: Page 2 of 2

6. What do your parents think of your job?

They’re say they’re proud but I know that they’re deeply ashamed. I caught my mum the other week telling her neighbour that I still worked in Superdrug.

7. What’s the worst thing about being a comedian?

The audiences. Not all of them. Sometimes it’s just one or two or maybe a small group, but occasionally the whole audience are the absolute worst.

8. I think you are very good at what you do (that’s why I’m asking these questions). What do you think of you?

Fine

9. How much do you earn and how much would you like to earn?

I steal.

10. How important is luck in terms of career success – have you had lucky breaks?

My biggest lucky break is undoubtably being a straight white male. I’d like to add that I work very hard at what I do but that’s easy for me to say.

11. Alan Davies has said that comedians fall into two categories - golfers and self-harmers. The former just get on with life, the latter are tortured artists. Which are you – or do you think you fit into a third category?

I'm the green keeper of the golf course.

12. Who is your favourite person ever and why – not including family or friends or other comedians?

It’ll have to be guess, but I think my ‘favourite person ever’, that I don’t know, is probably Jill from accounts.

13. Do you keep your drawers tidy and if not why not? (please think long and hard about this question, it's to settle an argument with my girlfriend. The future of our relationship could depend on your response).

My draws are a mess, I’m not sure I can help you.
