News: London Power Cut Scuppers Ed Gamble Gig

A major power cut in Central London on Friday night forced Ed Gamble to cancel the final gig of his UK tour.

Gamble was supposed to be performing his show at the Leicester Square Theatre but early in the evening the power went out around the area and the venue was plunged into darkness. Gamble tweeted: "London has got Black Friday all wrong".

Gamble kept fans updated via Twitter and was hoping that the gig would still go ahead. Unfortunately the decision was taken to postpone the show. Ticket holders will be informed by the venue of a rescheduled date. If they don't contact you next week it might be best to contact them.

Meanwhile the Comedy Store in Piccadilly Circus was not affected and the Soho Theatre, which also had a number of comedy gigs scheduled for this evening, tried not to gloat on Twitter: "Everywhere except us in Dean Street, chums. ".

Gamble had been planning to go for a drink in the Soho Theatre after his show. Earlier in the day he had been discussing possible venueson Facebook  and wrote: "I'm going to the Soho Theatre bar after my show...I enjoy the delicious irony of drinking in a rival of the theatre I've just performed in. See you later if you want."

Sure enough shortly after the cancellation was announced and everyone had left the building the power returned to the Leicester Square Theatre and the later Hans Teeuwen gig went ahead as planned. Gamble, meanwhile, tweeted: "Going to get angrily shitfaced now. See you on the other side."

By coincidence there was a power cut in Islington the previous week, which meant a loss of electricity at the new Angel Comedy Club, The Bill Murray. But that show did go on. MC Nico Yearwood, Jack Barry, Erik Pohl, Sam Russell, Sam Mitchell and Thanyia Moore performed while being lit by the torches on the audience's phones.
