Lucy Porter Writes Manifesto For Middle-Aged Women

Lucy Porter's new book, Middle-Aged Women Get Sh*t Done: A Manifesto (or a Cry for Help?), is to be published by Wildfire this August.

The book is a combination of comic observations and self-help drawing on Porter's personal experience. Or as the blurb says:

"It's 8.31am and you've already responded to a dozen of your boss's deranged overnight work emails, got your kids off to school in something approximating a uniform, unblocked the shower drain with your actual bare hands and sorted out your elderly mother's supermarket order crisis.

Congratulations, you are a middle-aged woman who is getting sh*t done.

We all know it: midlife women are the glue that binds society together. We are invincible, all-powerful, and you mess with us at your peril. But we're also quite knackered and we'd like a break please. In this hilarious and irreverent manifesto, Lucy Porter steers us through the trials of being the exhausted meat in the middle of the sandwich generation with her trademark wit, warmth and a hefty dose of righteous rage.

Part celebration, part rallying cry, this is a call to arms: ladies, put down your to-do lists and let someone else take on all the crap for once."

Best known for her appearances on Live at the Apollo, QI, and BBC Radio 4 staples like The News Quiz and Just a Minute, Lucy has built a career on smart, personable comedy that draws audiences in with warmth and wit.She is currently on tour. Details here. In her new show Let Yourself Go, and presumably in the book, she reflects on the strange freedom of midlife - from the reality of botox regrets and menopausal rage to her newfound love of slankets, garden centres and doing the register at the start of each show.
