News: Toast of London Tops British Comedy Awards Nominations

Toast of London

Matt Berry’s C4 sitcom Toast of London has received six British Comedy Award nominations. The sitcom, co-written by Arthur Mathews, is nominated in the Best Sitcom, Best New Comedy and Best Comedy Moment categories, with three of its stars getting acting recognition.

Berry is also nominated for his roles in BBC sitcom House of Fools and his internet short Lone Wolf.

BBC One’s Would I Lie To You received four nominations - Best Comedy Panel Show, Best Comedy Moment 2014, and one for each team captains David Mitchell and Lee Mack for Best Male TV Comic. Harry Enfield and Paul Whitehouse's spoof documentary Harry And Paul's Story Of The Twos, celebrating 50 years of BBC Two, has four nominations.

Old comedy is also in the running. Monty Python's Flying Circus is up for two awards for their reunion show Monty Python Live (Mostly) and its accompanying documentary which aired on UKTV.

The best male TV comic award is between David Mitchell, Lee Mack, Sean Lock and Stewart Lee. The female category features Aisling Bea, Bridget Christie, Isy Suttie and Nina Conti.

The best comedy entertainment personality is between Adam Hills for The Last Leg, Ant and Dec for I'm a Celebrity...Get Me Out of Here! and chat show hosts Alan Carr and Graham Norton.

There will also be TWO special awards given out on the night; The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain Award and The British Comedy Academy Lifetime Achievement Award.

The ceremony will be held in London in December, hosted by Jonathan Ross and will be broadcast by C4.
