Stewart Lee has joked in the past that he can’t resist doing a benefit because of the backstage crisps. Well, he’s back this week at the Hammersmith, sorry, Eventim Apollo on Friday as part of the Roar With Laughter fundraiser for the Zoological Society. You can do your bit for endangered species and have a giggle by buying a ticket. The line-up is pretty varied. As well as Stewart Lee you can see Seann Walsh, David O'Doherty, Sean Lock, Ed Byrne, Lucy Porter, Phil Nichol and Greg Burns.

Also on Friday is Jimeoin at the Forum. The Irishman (though actually born in Leamington Spa and big in Australia) was on Sunday Night at the Palladium this week, where viewers got a tiny glimpse of his observational skills. Jimeoin is like the anti-Michael McIntyre. When MM builds big routines out of the big things that bother us, Jimeoin homes in on the smallest things - the way we wave our hands, our odd turns of phrase. He could probably do thirty minutes just about his eyebrows and it would be mesmerising.

As well as stand-up there is a theatre opening coming up that will be of interest to comedy fans. Renaissance comedian David Baddiel’s first musical, The Infidel, is currently in preview and opens at the Theatre Royal Stratford East on Wednesday. It’s an adaptation of the movie about a Muslim who discovers that he is Jewish. Omid Djalili starred in the screen version, the lesser-known Kev Orkian takes the lead here. The story is intriguing, the previews have had good feedback on Twitter, and the music includes songs such as Sexy Burqa and Put A Fatwa On It. Read Beyond The Joke later this week for a review.
