News: Another Film Award Nomination For Dave Johns

Comedian Dave Johns has received another award nomination for his role in the Ken Loach film I, Daniel Blake.

Johns has been nominated for Best Actor in the European Film Awards. The other nominees are Rolf Lassgard for A Man Called Ove, Hugh Grant for Florence Foster Jenkins, Burghart Klaussner for The People Vs Fritz Bauer and Peter Simonischek for Toni Erdmann.

I, Daniel Blake, starring comedian Dave Johns has been nominated for more British Independent Film Awards than any other film this year.

The acclaimed movie directed by Ken Loach has received seven nominations. Dave Johns has been nominated for Best Actor alongside Max Records for I Am Not a Serial Killer, Michael Fassbender for Trespass Against Us, Shia Labeouf for American Honey and Steve Brandon for My Feral Heart. Johns is also up for Most Promising Newcomer alongside his co-star Hayley Squires.

News: Yet Another Film Festival Prize For New Ken Loach Movie

I, Daniel Blake, the film directed by Ken Loach and starring comedian Dave Johns has won the Audience Prize Award at the San Sebastian Film Festival.

Johns posted the news on Twitter, adding that it had won with the highest score ever in the festival's history.

The film has already won the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and is released in the UK on October 21.

Johns had been at the festival and was due to return to the UK today but now has to stay another night for the ceremony. The film has already won the Palme D'Or at the Cannes Film Festival and is released in the UK this autumn.

News: Comedian Dave Johns to Star in New Ken Loach Film

Comedian Dave Johns has landed the lead role in the next Ken Loach film. 

In I, Daniel Blake the stand-up from Wallsend will play a middle aged joiner who needs state welfare after illness. He meets a single mother who is also dependent on welfare and the story follows them as they negotiate the benefits system. Hayley Squires co-stars. Filming has just started in Newcastle.
