BBC Comedy has announced two brand new opportunities for comedy talent as the BBC Comedy Collective and BBC Comedy Grants are launched.
The BBC’s big comedy talent search The New Comedy Awards has reached its climax. Over a thousand applied; more than 80 went head-to-head at showcases across the country; 30 battled it out in the regional heats; now six finalists take to the stage in their bid to win over the judges and be crowned the BBC New Comedian of 2022. The final will be screened on BBC One on 9th November.
Dreaming Whilst Black, the hit web series has been commissioned for a full six-part series for BBC Three and iPlayer, following the critically acclaimed, “unflinchingly observed” (The Sunday Times), award-winning pilot that aired last year. The news is accompanied with the creative collaboration of global entertainment company A24 (Euphoria, Everything Everywhere All At Once), who will co-produce and distribute the series internationally.
Submissions are now open for the fourth Comedy Women In Print prize.

Farrago has joined forces with Helen Lederer’s game-changing Comedy Women in Print (CWIP) to curate The Comedy Short Story Prize, the first award celebrating the funniest short story writing by women. The shortlisted entries will also be published by Farrago, the home of humorous fiction, in a special anthology in September 2023.

The BIFA qualifying film festival Short Com is pumped to announce that their TV Sitcom Writing Competition has returned for the third year in a row; with a brand new line-up of judges to assess the final shortlisted writers. The competition aims to discover new comedy writing talent and connect them to the industry. And they also have a new cash prize of £500 for the overall winner along with some goodies from BCG Pro.
