Channel 4’s offbeat, adult puppet comedy Don’t Hug Me I’m Scared has been voted Comedy Of The Year and Best New TV Sitcom at the 2022 Comedy.co.uk Awards.

Spoofing children’s early-learning programming, the dark sitcom originated as a self-produced web series in 2011 and quickly became a cult hit, arriving on television in the autumn with a six-part series.

National Comedy Awards Winners Revealed

The winners of the first National Comedy Awards for Stand Up To Cancer have been announced at the inaugural ceremony at Camden Roundhouse in London this evening (Wed 2 Mar). The awards celebrating Britain’s favourite funny people were hosted by Tom Allen, with trophies being handed out by stars of comedy and entertainment including Matt Lucas, Meera Syal, Jamie Demetriou, Jessica Hynes and Joel Dommett.

Voting Reopens For National Comedy Awards

The voting has reopened for the National Comedy Awards for Stand Up To Cancer. 

Shortlist voting is back on at www.thenationalcomedyawards.com ahead of next week’s ceremony. The vote will close on Sunday 27 Feb at 23:59.

The awards, which were due to take place as a live event last December were postponed because of Covid. They will now take place on 2 March at London’s Roundhouse and will be broadcast on Channel 4 on 5 March.

Jo Caulfield, Ninia Benjamin & Mark Nelson Share Circuit Comedian of the Year Award

Jo Caulfield, Ninia Benjamin and Mark Nelson have jointly won the award for Circuit Comedian of the Year.

The comedy industry voted resulted in a triple tie so the award this year – won last year by Scott Bennett – will be shared.

Sean Lock posthumously picks up the Outstanding Achievement Award.

Best MC went to Paul Smith, a regular compere at the Hot Water Club in Liverpool.

News: BBC Audio Drama Awards 2021 – Full Results

The BBC Audio Drama Awards 2021 has revealed winners including Sir Tom Stoppard, Maggie Steed, David Threlfall and the youngest recipient to date, Jordan Nash – all in a virtual ceremony marking the 10th year of the awards. The Outstanding Contribution prize and a new ‘Year of Reinvention’ category both recognised the sector’s achievements in light of challenges presented by covid-19.
